Winner of the National Diversity Awards 2013
Community Organisation Award for Age
The Bristol Older People’s Forum, is an independent self-governing organisation run by an elected management committee, and was established for over 55’s in the area. Their vision is to make sure that older people in Bristol are happy with their quality of life, have the right services, are treated equally, listened to by decision makers, no longer feel isolated and can participate in the community. The Forum actively demonstrates that older people can contribute to the community, bring experience and wisdom to local affairs, learn new skills and embrace new ideas to show getting older is something to be embraced and enjoyed. They link members to other networks, have outreach sessions and are on ITV’s Diversity Panel, engaging people through media, events, Internet, newsletters and Neighbourhood Partnerships.
