On completion of the Subsidiary Diploma we recommend that you progress on to this course, the programme covers many of the same aspects of the first year (Subsidiary Diploma) but in much more detail. It is an exciting course, students will make garments, learn various techniques, explore ideas and creativity and it is aimed at anyone who has a passion for fashion and creativity.
The fashion projects will teach you to cut your own patterns, also garment construction techniques, fashion illustration and design development by the way of creative sketchbook work.
Textile projects will lead you to explore many techniques wihtin the manipulation of fabrics, creating shapes and fabrics by weaving, felting and knitting as well as embellishment techniques such as applique and embroidery etc.
You will also explore research skills looking at artists, designers and craft professionals.
Previous students have been given the opportunity to work on live briefs and project work creating local and national contacts. The group are involved in many competitions and participate in various fashion shows relating to different charities and companies which helps to raise awareness of the course and the young designers.
At the end of the course you would have built up a creative portfolio in which you can show at interviews for other courses at HE level or prospective employers.
Assessment is through coursework and college set assignments which once assessed is moderated.
Completion of the Subsidiary Diploma in Fashion Design or relevant industrial experience.
Successful completion of the Extended Diploma could lead to Higher Education in a related subject or to employment.
