DevOps Engineer

Great opportunity to be part of a new structure within our Application Development & Maintenance (ADM) Dept, with big plans for 2017, this will be challenging and rewarding opportunity for the right person, who is driven by providing excellence ..

The agility of the SDLC and “path to live” is recognised as a DLG crown-jewel to improve time to market and the reliability of change and operations.

The DevOps engineer will be a  pro-active member of a development team:

•              Work with internal and external suppliers to design and build the configuration management, release, deployment and operations cycle to meet business and operability requirements.

•              To promote and engineer solutions that deliver the “3 ways of DevOps”:

o             Full system view of the delivery and operations approach and the avoidance of waste and defect propagation

o             Amplify feedback loops – and increase the frequency – through the automation

o             Enable experimentation within the development lifecycle to validate enhancements and improvements whilst mitigating risk

DevOps Engineer

  • Ensure fitness of purpose of the development lifecycle to meet business and operability requirements.
  • To ensure collaboration takes place between the correct parties (e.g., business, operations, risk, CISO, etc) at the right time to engineer in quality at source rather than in retrospect.
  • To provide thought leadership on DLGs chosen toolchain. Advise on changes to the toolset and propose proving opportunities.
  • Work within project delivery teams to own the SDLC approach to meet DLG requirements through in to production and operation.
  • Maintain improvement plans to the SDLC aligned with business priorities. Stand up and operate small proofs of concepts.
  • Design and develop feedback loops for project delivery.
  • Ensure broader understanding of DevOps in the organisation and how the organisation can adopt alternative ways of working (behavioural and not just technical).
  • Influence projects to develop in ways that enable architectural reusability (e.g., containerisation  and microservices).
  • Engage, support and oversee suppliers and the productionisation of reusable services across projects (e.g., cloud provision).
  • Maintain subject matter expertise of the external market and emerging technology trends related to specific applications.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in the development and continuous deployment of applications.
  • Pro-actively demonstrate required behaviours in line with expectations of the role.

Skills & Experience required

  • Demonstrable experience of working as a DevOps Engineer within an enterprise scale environment
  • Ability to interact with senior stakeholder with a FTSE organisation
  • Experience of a full development lifecycle
  • Previously worked in a mixed internal / outsourced model.
  • Requires: AWS (Demonstrable experience)
  • Require one of: Terraform / Puppet / Ansible
  • Highly desirable – Cloud Security
