Full-Time Financial Accounting Manager

Job Description

Responsible for the timely delivery of accurate and appropriate recording, reporting and control of the general ledger. You will be responsible for managing month-end financial accounting processes run by UK and offshore resources. You will ensure that entries and reconciliations are properly reviewed and accounted for in line with IFRS, the Group’s Accounting Policies and Manual, Financial Reporting and Control Framework, including its associated Minimum Standards.

What your day will look like:

  • Reviewing  accounting entries raised and proposed by the offshore team. Ensuring that entries are recorded accurately in the general ledger, in accordance with the Group’s Accounting Policies and Manual, and substantiated to appropriate evidence.
  • Challenging the month-end financial accounting process. Identifying opportunities for improvement (process and modelling) and reviewing tasks to move them off, or earlier on, the critical path to continuously improve the timeliness of month end.
  • Reviewing legal entity financial statements. Analysing significant movements in the balance sheet and provide appropriate monthly reporting, commentary and analysis. Helping to improve understanding of legal entities’ financial position and performance to deliver better control.
  • Certifying balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the offshore team in line with the Minimum Standard. Reviewing substantiation evidence to auditing concepts, including completeness, existence and accuracy.
  • Identifying, owning and managing risks appropriate to the role. Report appropriate issues and risks to senior management, while supporting offshore resources to understand and resolve issues.
  • Participating in Group-wide and Finance projects and new products. Providing technical accounting and financial process expertise to project requirements’ specifications. Supporting  user acceptance testing and implementation of new financial accounting outputs.
  • Supporting the audit (Finance Risk team, internal and external audit) of the Group’s legal entities, control environment and financial records.

    Required skills:

                Technical:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with five years post-qualified experience. Be able to look at financial accounting issues and processes from a new angle and deliver solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of applying IAS 38 Intangible Assets, IAS 16 Property, Plant and Equipment and IAS 36 Impairment of Assets.
  • Experienced in substantiation and reconciliation, including applying auditing concepts.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet financial modelling is essential, and of Oracle Financials and Cognos TM1 reporting software would be advantageous.

                      Business:

  • A strong communicator with the ability to influence and connect with others to work together to resolve issues, including with resources working in offshore teams.
  • Interested in the Group’s strategy and understands how this connects to the Finance function.
