What being a Lead Software Engineer involves:

  • Leading software engineering across all projects within Digital (including software reviews, tools and solution design and maintenance and infrastructure design and operation).
  • Managing technology architectures across Digital for all engineering functions and drive capability and competency across all teams.
  • Managing the relationship with 3rd parties (software engineering) working on Digital projects, ensuring 3rd party deliveries are formally scoped, and delivery is within budget and to agreed milestones and quality plans.
  • Being responsible for delivered solutions ensuring commercially viability; operational principles and standards compliance; adherence to the architectural strategy and high-level solution designs; and solution delivery which is; supportable, enduring and minimises future development costs.
  • Driving agile delivery principles across all of Digital ensuring best practice adoption around extreme programming, scrum, kanban, continuous delivery, devops and security.
  • Providing input to department business and technology strategy and implements the road map.
  • Developing team capacity/capability including training and recruitment.
  • Managing team resourcing across all Digital projects for in-house / 3rd parties ensuring key skills and intellectual property are retained.
  • Supporting and advise peers (application delivery managers, architects, business analysts etc) to ensure the proposed solution fits with the overall system design principles and requirements are delivered.
  • Effectively planning and design to minimise any adverse impact to our business and customers.
  • Ensuring all activity is compliant and delivered within the project governance frameworks.
  • Promoting and proactively support a culture of robust (project and departmental) risk assessment/mitigation, and assure that solutions meet operating principles.
  • Caring for the agile frameworks (Scrum and Kanban) within the team, ensure that Agile principles are practised by peers and understood by stakeholders.

Skills and Qualities you’ll need:

  • Software engineering (coding) capapbility and solution design and architecture experience (J2EE & JSP (inc. Expression Language), Behaviour Driven Development (BDD), HTML5, CSS3, Jscript & Angular JS, XML, GIT & Continuous Integration)
  • Able to lead multi-disciplined teams and Agile engineering experience (competent and capable)
  • Demonstrable experience of Digital change delivery across multi products/brands and a range of devices
  • Demonstrable experience of developing enterprise Digital experiences across web, mobile and apps

Working Hours:

  • Full Time – 35 Hours
