Job Description

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed / resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

We have received funding from the Medical Research Council to focus on Impact assessment of diagnostic algorithms and tools for multi-drug resistant (MDR-TB) and drug sensitive tuberculosis (TB) in the Philippines and as a result we have a unique opportunity for a highly skilled Operational Research Analyst to model the impacts (e.g. on patients, health systems and costs) of new technologies.  This exciting role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to support national and global policy decisions and promote access by the poor to health services.

Candidates must have proven experience of creating and improving operational/statistical/analytical models and have the ability to interact and work with multiple disciplines. These disciplines will include; health economists, statisticians, modellers, laboratory technicians, public health clinical physicians and policy makers.  It is essential that you are educated to Master’s degree level in either a Management Science, Mathematics, or Statistics discipline and you must possess advanced knowledge of relevant software packages for mathematical and operational analysis. Experience of using a discrete event simulation tool such as ‘WITNESS’ would also be an advantage.

As you will be required to present at National and International Conferences, it is essential that you have effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will be required to build effective working relationships in a multicultural environment with confidence, tact and diplomacy.  Although the role is based in the UK, there will be travel to the Philippines and other visits to international conferences so we will require a degree of flexibility.
