Job Description

Cheshire Constabulary is promoting to the rank of Sergeant. The promotion process is now open and closes on Sunday 5th November 2017. Applications are open to substantive Police Constables from Home Office forces that are looking for promotion to the rank of Sergeant. The specific roles will be determined upon appointment.

This is a challenging and rigorous process; the successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to make a significant contribution to Cheshire Constabulary as a Sergeant. The successful candidates will need to be highly motivated with a proven ability to develop and lead high performing teams.

Officers considering applying should be initiating conversations with their line managers and only apply if they have management support and believe they are fully operational competent and ready for promotion. This should be evidenced within your current PDR demonstrating competence in current rank and Continual Professional Development.

The application for the Sergeants Promotion Process requires applicants to evidence the 7 personal qualities for the role of Sergeants and also requires the applicant to make reference to experience gained within the last 2 years. Applicants are strongly advised to read the Personal Qualities for the role of Sergeant prior to applying.

The application form will need to be endorsed by your line manager, Area Commander/ Head of Department and Chief Superintendent. Any application forms received that are not verified and/ or endorsed will not be considered, therefore please ensure that you factor sufficient time into your application process to ensure that your application form is endorsed prior to the closing date.

Eligibility Criteria
• Be a substantive Police Officer (outside 2 year Probation Period) from a Home Office Force
• Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues
• Declare any business interests at the time of applying
• Meet the forces attendance standards
• Have attained OSPRE I and/or OSPRE II or NPPF Legal Exam (step 2)

Officers who are interested in applying, the promotion process will consist of:
• Competency based application form
• Psychometric Testing
• Presentation (topic has already been provided and is detailed within the application pack)
• Competency based interview

Officers successful through the promotion process will be promoted;
• Substantively if qualified to OSPRE I and II
• Temporarily if qualified to Legal Examination Part I (previously OSPRE I) for a minimum of 12 months to complete Work Based Assessments. Once WBA are successfully completed you will be made substantive in post.

If successful through the promotion process you must give considerations to the fact that you could be posted anywhere in the county, exceptional circumstances will be considered but only if brought to our attention in advance.

Please note that External officers who are successful through the process will be required to undertake pre-employment checks, these include vetting, drugs screening, medical and referencing.
