Full-Time Project Director Rail

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join one of SKANSKA’S highest preforming Operating Units working on supporting the growth of its rail sector. As part of the Infrastructure Services (IS) Senior Team, the Project Director is responsible leading a project or a portfolio of projects in a sizeable and growing rail business. The role is key to the growth of the business and will include identifying future opportunities and managing client engagement.

The Project Director will be tasked with leading and delivering projects within budget and to contractual requirements to the satisfaction of internal and external key stakeholder’s including the Skanska Infrastructure Services Leadership Team and Skanska UK.

Multi-location working across the South of the UK is expected – Regular travel to other locations as required e.g. to Head Office and other UK offices and project


  • Manage client engagement and relationship management and business development
  • Be accountable for managing a £25-50m per annum turnover and outperforming revenue and gross income forecasts
  • Provide input to and where appropriate, leading the tender process for rail projects
  • Develop, communicate and embed the rail sector strategy in line with the Skanska corporate business plan
  • Develop and achieve financial outperform action plans
  • Support regional and national business development activities, identifying and pursuing opportunities and developing the Skanska brand
  • Engage with key stakeholders and communities
  • Strategic management of the supply chain
  • Manage performance and improvement against key business targets in line with the Skanska business plan – operational, financial, people, health/safety, quality, environmental and client satisfaction

We’re looking for:

  • Track record of success in delivering complex major rail projects or multiple rail projects.
  • Business development in UK rail market with experience of Network Rail
  • A strong leader, commercially and financially astute and with the ability to provide positive leadership and clear direction to a wide-ranging team.
  • Track record of consistently meeting or exceeding business financial, productivity, growth and safety targets
  • Experience of work winning and tender preparation for rail projects
  • Strong competency in interrogating profit and loss accounts and cost value reports, as well as developing and presenting regular financial forecasts
  • Knowledge of UK rail sector including Network Rail
