Full-Time Senior Materials Technician

Job Description

Where can you help build better communities?
We are looking for a Senior Materials Technician to join our civil engineering team on-site on our A14 project.
To provide technical support and guidance to live contracts. To help identify areas of non-compliance before they arise.
  • To perform better tomorrow than we did today.
  • Advising site teams on materials issues.
  • Providing guidance on ‘Best practice’ methods to use in a variety of materials related situations.
  • Deliver training to Engineers, to cover subjects like: Sampling concrete, making cubes, curing cubes. All in line with the current British standards or relevant specifications.
  • Ensure live sites are keeping lab equipment in calibration and are using the equipment correctly.
  • Help and train site staff to maintain materials summaries.
  • Where required help with setup of site won recycled materials production (crusher).
  • Training of site staff to ensure continued quality production is maintained.
  • Adherence to Skanska’s policies and procedures.
  • Identification of potential materials resources.

We’re looking for

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • At least 6 years of experience of both site and laboratory materials testing.
  • Good sound knowledge of materials testing practices and the associated standards.
  • Sound knowledge of materials manufacturing processes (EG blacktop production, Concrete production)
  • Ability to spot poor materials and poor materials handling
  • Good knowledge of best practice for classic materials use (Soils compaction, Concrete Curing, blacktop laying, crusher output)
  • Computer skills (proficient in Word and Excel)
  • Communication skills (meetings with site teams, presenting to small groups)
  • Relevant CSCS card.
  • Must be willing to Travel
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Full driving licence
