Free Wills Month brings together 10 major UK charities to offer members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have a simple will written or updated for free.
The campaign runs from 3 to 31 March 2014, and people must book an appointment with a participating solicitor during this period in order to take advantage of the scheme. The appointment itself can however take place after the closing date.
Age UK is one of the charities backing the campaign, alongside the Stroke Association, Blue Cross for Pets, RNLI Lifeboats, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the British Heart Foundation, WWF, Oxfam, Arthritis Research UK and Guide Dogs.
Free Wills Month is backed by charities and solicitors in the hope, but without any obligation, that the recipient will include a legacy for a sponsoring charity.
In 2013, over 5000 older people took advantage of the campaign with around 60% of users including a gift to one or more of the sponsoring charities in their will.
How to arrange a free will
To be eligible for a free will, participants must be entitled to make a valid will in the United Kingdom and have reached the age of 55. In the case of mirror wills, it is sufficient that one partner is at least 55 years old.
Participating solicitors can be found in Kent, Chesterfield, Chichester, Worthing, Harrogate, Liverpool, Northampton, Peterborough, Sheffield, Sunderland and Wirral. People living outside of these locations can also take advantage of the scheme.
To find out if a solicitor is taking part in the campaign in your local area, visit the Free Wills Month website or call 0845 020 4309.
You must book the appointment directly with a participating solicitor, referencing Free Wills Month at the time of making the appointment.
