About Your Course
Our flexible programme allows you to specialise in one or more of the science subjects and practical activities. You will study gymnastics, dance, games, outdoor and adventurous activities, swimming and athletics in the first year, alongside psychology, biomechanics, sociology, physiology and anatomy.
In years two and three your practical activities will be based around two main areas: one will include modules on participation and working with diverse groups including young people, and the other will allow you to study high performance and coaching. You will be able to choose one or more theory modules in line with your specific area of interest and career aspirations.
There is also the chance for you to specialise and strengthen your knowledge and skills in a particular are of study by choosing one of our specialist learning pathways, which include Physical Activity & Health, Sports Science, Inclusive Activities or Dance Education, amongst others.
This course will be excellent preparation for a postgraduate qualification in PE teaching and allow you to consider other sport-related employment opportunities.
At the start of the year you can go on a one-week group study residential. This will be a chance to meet new friends and take part in a number of challenges to develop your problem solving and team working skills. Activities can include rock climbing, gorge scrambling, mountaineering, walking, canoeing and kayaking.
