Definition of Volunteering
Volunteering is an activity that a person may undertake to offer their free time, doing something positive for their local community. This can benefit the environment or an individual/group, other than or in addition to, close relatives.
Volunteering is a person offering their voluntary services through their own freewill, giving their time and commitment freely without financial gain. This can include formal activity undertaken through public, private and voluntary organisations aswell as informal community participation e.g. shopping for a neighbour.

Wales Council for Voluntary Action
WCVA is the voice of the voluntary sector in Wales. We represent and campaign for voluntary organisations, volunteers and communities.
National Council for Voluntary Organisations
The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) is the largest umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector in England.

As Scotland’s Centre for Excellence in volunteering, Volunteer Development Scotland leads the way in informing and modernising approaches to volunteering policy, enhancing practice and improving the quality of the volunteering experience for the people of Scotland.
