Who is the programme for ?
This is a nationally recognised qualification for those with a good sense of teamwork and an understanding of the first stages of a hairdressing career.
What does the programme include ?
You will attend both theory and practical sessions and work in a realistic commercial salon environment under direct supervision of tutors. Additional certificates may be available in subjects such as Indian Head Massage, Customer Service and Health & Safety. The following subjects are covered: shampoo and condition hair; reception; health & safety; the art of dressing hair; temporary colour; working with others.
What attendance is required ?
Your programme is full-time over the period of one year. The exact days and times depend on the timetable but you can expect to attend for a minimum of 13 hours per week. You may be able to fast track through, depending on your level of competence.
Learning and assessment
Throughout the programme you will be assessed regularly against the standards set down by the examining body. These assessments will be pre-arranged and will be as unobtrusive as possible. Once you have completed the practical assessment of a unit to the set standard you will sit your written assessment paper. You will be given assignments throughout the programme with plenty of help and guidance. Each level covers an area of competence at a level which places it on a national framework. The framework makes qualifications easier to understand and also shows how people can progress through the system. The qualification is based on standards that spell out the broad skills required in employment.
